Silverlight 4 Launch Watch a webcast of the Microsoft Silverlight 4 Launch on April 13th at 8:00am Pacific Daylight Time, available both live or on demand. Hear Scott Guthrie, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s.NET Developer Platform, as he introduces Silverlight 4 and shows how Silverlight helps companies design, develop and deliver. Then I imported the output from Deep Zoom Composer into a Silverlight project and added zooming and panning logic similar to that in the preceding section. To keep the download size manageable (13MB versus 170MB), I deleted the bottom two layers of the image pyramid that Composer generated before I uploaded the app to the MSDN Code Gallery.

Finally, after many years I found a use for it; using images from a hot air ballon for students to see the effects of climate change on a micro, and macro level.
An updated version of the Deep Zoom Composer for Silverlight 2 is available for download since the end of the past week. Microsoft's Janete Kirupa revealed that the focus of the update was to deliver fixes for the bugs reported via user feedback. At the same time, the update, which went live on December 19, fixes what Kirupa referred to as major shortcomings in the solution.
In this regard, in addition to the optimizations and tweaks delivered by Microsoft to the Deep Zoom Composer bits, the Redmond company has also updated the documentation available with the software. The Deep Zoom Composer User Guide, put together by Christopher Lohr, content publishing manager, Expression Studio, and his team is included in the update.

Dealing with many high-resolution images on an interactive design surface is a challenge, but Deep Zoom Composer should now allow you to compose more images than you could in the past. We aren’t quite there yet, so expect future releases to address them in greater detail,” Kirupa added.
The latest version of Deep Zoom Composer also comes to the table with updated Seadragon Ajax templates. While the previous release bridged Deep Zoom Composer with Seadragon Ajax, the current bits no longer make it necessary for users to upload their JS libraries to the server along with the digital images, as the libraries have been deferred to the Live Labs team’s seadragon.com server.
“For the past few releases, we made some major changes to our project structure and how the DZPRJ files are written and opened. Unfortunately, for some of you, those changes meant your older projects were no longer opening. We have tried to fix as many of those incompatibilities in this release, and a big thanks to all of you who have have e-mailed us your projects for testing,” Kirupa explained.

Follow these steps to create and publish your own Deep Zoom composition:
Step 1: Download and Install Deep Zoom Composer
Deep Zoom Composer is a tool that allows you to prepare images for use with the Deep Zoom technology. You can download Deep Zoom Composer here.
Step 2: Import Images
Think about the type of composition you like to create and import the source images into Deep Zoom Composer:
For the Mona Lisa Deep Zoom Composition I used a high resolution version of the famous painting as the background and many other images to hide as Easter Eggs.
Step 3: Create Composition
If you like to convert a high resolution image (e.g. panoramic photo, large map etc.) to the deep zoom format all you have to do is click on compose and drag the image from the list of available images to the design surface.
Deep Zoom Composer Silverlight 4 For Mac Pro
To include multiple images into one composition just zoom into the areas where you like to place the image and drag you images to the design surface. For the Mona Lisa Deep Zoom Composition I also specified menu items. To add a menu item click on menu and drag images from layers to the menu. The Deep Zoom Viewer will display those menu items and automatically zoom to the area where the image is located.
Step 4: Export Composition
Click on the Export Tab and chose a name, location and output type:
For this example I used the default settings. By default the output type is Silverlight Deep Zoom. In this case to view the composition Silverlight is required. If you choose Seadragon Ajax as the output type a Ajax based viewer will be generated that can be viewed even without the Silverlight plugin installed.
Step 5: Publish Composition
To publish the composition all you have to to is copy the files generated by Deep Zoom Composer to a Web Server. There are no special requirements for the Web Sever. Any static HTTP File Server will do. If you do not have access to your own Web Server the easiest way to publish the Deep Zoom Composition is via Dropbox. Get a Dropbox account and copy the files to the public folder of your Dropbox:
To get the public link right click the main html file generated by Deep Zoom Composer and choose copy public link. Your Deep Zoom Composition is now online and can be shared with others.
To integrate the composition into your blog you can use a modified version of the following tag:
<iframe width='570' height='400' src='http://yourserver.com/yourdeepzoom.html' frameborder='0' scrolling='no'></iframe>
